Tires will need to be repaired at some point. While there are some indicators that they'll need repairs soon, like a slow leak, you can drive over a nail at any time. It can be nerve-wracking to deal with, especially if the blow out was scary, so here are some key things you should know about getting your tires repaired. This is just to help you feel more knowledgeable and in control.

Tire Repair Is Fairly Cheap

Tire repairs on normal tires cost anywhere from $5 up to $40. If you have run flats, you're probably looking at more like $30 to $60. For car repair and maintenance, these are decent prices. However, it should be noted that there are lots of ways to get tire repairs done for even cheaper or for free. A lot of repair shops will warranty your tire for a certain amount of time. This means that you can sometimes get your tire repaired at no cost to you. And many tire places have memberships that offer all kinds of discounts on their services, including very cheap or sometimes free tire repairs.

Tire Sealant Is for Emergency Use Only

Tire sealants are not a long-term solution to your tire woes. It can be handy, though. If you don't have a spare, or your tire went flat somewhere that it would be too dangerous for you to put your spare on, tire sealant can help you move your car to a safer location. However, even the instructions of the tire sealant will tell you that you need to get your tire repaired as quickly as possible. It's meant to help you out of a jam, not completely repair your tire.

Most Tire Repair Kits Are Also Intended to Be Temporary

This varies depending on the kit, but the ideal way to repair a tire is to remove the tire and do the repair work from the inside of the tire. Almost none of the kits you can buy are intended to repair a tire in this way. They can address the issue for a while but eventually, you're going to need to get the tire looked at. This is not to say don't use them; they can absolutely help you buy time until you get the time and/or money to go get your tire repaired. Just try to keep in mind that they are not an ideal long-term solution.

If your tires are in trouble, work with tire repair companies like Sam's Tire Service Inc.
